In the past, Dynamics GP training meant spending several days onsite with customers, leaving behind hefty binders filled with written instructions and screenshots. With plenty of arrows, stars and notes to make sure the client could easily reference the tasks they would do most often.

While this approach worked at the time, we now have a better way to help our clients.

Today, we focus on creating concise, targeted videos.

Instead of searching through all those screenshots, our clients can quickly access a short (5 to 10 minute) video tailored to a specific task.

For example, entering an invoice, voiding a check, or reconciling accounts.

These reference videos allow users to find answers on their own without calling for support. People are busy; they don’t want to pick up a phone and ask. They want to click, watch, and move on with their day.

Plus, the videos can be easily updated as new features are added to the software.

Training Videos vs. Reference Videos

Our training strategy includes two distinct types of resources:

• Training Videos: Comprehensive recordings covering end-to-end processes, such as the entire payables cycle.
• Reference Videos: Quick, task-specific recordings for actions like entering a credit memo or issuing a check.

This dual approach ensures users have access to both the big picture and the small details they need to succeed.

We will also give clients a list of each individual reference video so they can find them quickly.

We know that everyone has a preferred learning style, so we still offer a combination of live webinar-style training and onsite in-person training. But these are now supplemented with both training and reference videos.

Why Can’t I Just Watch YouTube Videos?

There are plenty of Microsoft Dynamics GP and Business Central training videos on YouTube. This might seem like a quick fix, but they often lack the nuance required for a customized BC/GP environment. And you really have no idea if the information presented is still accurate or even a best practice.

In our experience, many YouTube videos do not go into enough depth on a topic. A user may need to watch a few different YouTube videos to try to get the full answer. We make sure our videos from DLD Business Solutions are complete.

When we provide training videos, they are made with our clients in mind, taking into account unique configurations, third-party integrations, and industry-specific requirements.

Plus, we keep in mind the “personality” of the customer. Some of our clients may not be as computer savvy and dislike change.  They want every little step of their setup documented. Nobody wants screenshots anymore, but some users want videos in a specific way that works for them.

We feel that this personalized approach prevents costly mistakes because our customers can trust the training we give them.

I admit that we are often surprised to find out that many accounting software users, even at larger companies, overlook critical accounting practices. For example, a best practice is reconciling monthly payable and receivable aging reports with the general ledger. 

So, we go beyond the software and include these best practices in our training to help clients maintain clean, balanced books.
